Bristol University is one of the leading universities in Ballroom and Latin Dancing. The Beginners Team is particularly strong year upon year with many couples reaching the final at many competitions. All levels are taught to a very high standard and this is reflected in the results with BULABDS being one of the largest and highest ranking teams in the country.
Inter Varsity Dance Compeition (IVDC)
The Inter Varsity Dance Competition (IVDC) is one of the highlights of the competitive dance season. BULABDS spends an entire weekend in Blackpool competing in one of the most globally recognised ballroom for competitive dancing, The Winter Gardens Ballroom. IVDC is the event the Team has been training for all year and dancers have the opportunity to compete against all the other dance teams from across the country.
After the competition there is an opportunity to celebrate the days successes at the hotel before driving back on the Sunday. Any dancer that has attended this national competition will confirm the events electric atmosphere in an impressive ballroom. The whole weekend is hugely anticipated and an event not to be missed!
Southern University Dance Competition (SUDC)
SUDC is another huge competition in the competitive dance season for BULABDS. It is one of the biggest events of the university dancesport calender with major universities attending. It’s a wonderful day often with lively celebrations after.
There are several other competitions throughout the competitive dance season which BULABDS are always delighted to attend. This includes university friendlies, one of which Bristol hosts itself.
Every year BULABDS hosts the Bristol Friendly. A competition open to Universities across the country and is our last competition of the season. It’s a great way for members to see how a competition is organised and allows members of the Social Class to see all the energy and hype of the competitive dance floor in a local setting. Bristol Friendly is always highly anticipated with past years even running fun rounds that include Salsa and the Same-Sex Rumba.
